As for remmendations for a laptop: You can try Gateway (That's what I have) or HP. I don't if you're a Mac person, there's the iMac (which I'm getting soon for school uses).
But, find a laptop that would be suitable for you (how much space on the hard drive, memory, number of USB ports). If you're a person who does a lot of graphics, you probably would need a laptop with more hard drive space than your old one and much faster. And, don't go to Best Buy to buy, they got poor rep for selling computer or any software.
