Revenge of the Sith (!!!)
Just taking a quick break here since my French final is over. It went well, I think, easier than I thought it would be.
Anyway. I saw Episode three yesterday with
ginnaveve. We got there just as the line was going into the theatre and got good seats. The audience applauded when the previews started, when the actual movie started, and finally, at the end. It was so exciting, I mean, if it was like that for the last of the new trilogy, I wish I could have seen Return of Jedi in theatres when it first came out!
Anyway, personally, I don't see Hayden Christiansen as a leading role kind of guy. Some of his acting made me cringe when the rest of it was just...eh, whatever. The dialogue, though, man. During all the Anakin/Padme interludes I was wishing they would get interupted by some fancy fight scene, I mean, seriously. At least write good dialogue for Ewan McGregor and Samuel Jackson who weren't given a lot to go on.
Other than that. I loveloveloveloved the movie.
I am also stating right now, how much love for Yoda I have. He rocks so much with his no-nonsense-kick-butt attitude. LOVE! Wonderful movie, you can't miss it.
So. Spoilers. Under the cut. You've been warned.
Spoilers!!!!*******'Cause I know some people are tetchy like that.

The opening scene was fantastic and so exciting to watch. I love Anakin and Obi-wan's relationship in the beginning because it makes Anakin's betrayal even sadder to watch. And, OMG, R2D2 gets a fight scene! He gets to zap those crazy robot things, so cool.
The effects when the ship is falling out of the sky are awesome, especially with Anakin, Obi-wan, and Palpatine in the elevator shaft. Fabulous. They are running and sliding and Obi-wan regains conciousness while hanging over Anakin's shoulder as Anakin dangles precariously by one arm. Those elevator scenes are so fun to watch.
When they're back on Coruscant, Obi-wan and Anakin share some jokes from their shared experiences. Back to that relationship they have that makes the betrayal so much worse.
Then, blah blah blah, Anakin/Padme schmoop, baby, yada yada, happy father, yada.
*skipping ahead*
I totally forgot that Mace Windu was going to get killed until he had his duel with Palpatine. I half-expected Anakin would be the one to kill him. But. The effects that were used on Palpatine when he was hitting Mace with the lightning were great. It slowly made a transition from Palpatine's face to Sidious' face. At the end, he looked hideous. In the original trilogy hideous kind of way.
Anakin's turn to the dark side seemed a little abrupt to me. One second, he was all, "what have I done?" then, like, two seconds later he was kneeling before Sidious and pledging his allegiance and all that. But it got the job done, so, whatever.
Now all the "fun" begins. Or, "all the stuff that was the reason you came to see the movie in the first place" begins.
No, they do not show Anakin killing the younglings, I don't think I could have have taken that, so I'm glad they didn't. Others might not agree, but that's just me.
The saddest parts were when the clones started turning on all the Jedis they were escorting. Most of it had little to no dialogue but the music was what made it all so horrible to watch. So, in other words, good music choice, it made me sad.
But! This is why Yoda rocks. They could not kill him because he's, well, Yoda, and no one messes with Yoda enless they want their heads rolling around on the floor. Which did happen, by the way. First, when Anakin lobbed off Count Dooku's head and then when Yoda lobbed off the heads of both clones.
Oh, and major chewbacca screentime during that whole incident. Chewie rocks as well. I ♥ walking carpets like whoa. ;D
The last 45 minutes of the movie are the best ever. I may be forgetting some things but that gives me a reason to go see it again (like I needed one in the first place).
Oh! Back track. Palpatine was talking about a Darth Plagueis, or whoever, during that weird opera scene, about how he could create life from midichlorians and stuff. So...Anakin has no father! What? Some background info there, though I have no idea if this Darth Plagueis has been metioned before. Anyone read the books? Any mentions? I would love to know more.
(Edit: I found more info on Darth Plagueis HERE, yay!)
Anyway, the final fight between Anakin and Obi-wan was spectacular. It was so quick that I kept thinking I was missing things when I blinked. It was fun, though. They go to new extremes, fighting over lava while balancing precariously on tiny flying robot things.
After Anakin is beaten by Obi-wan and laying at the edge of the lava, devoid of both legs and his real arm, it's just...I'm so sad for Obi-wan when he makes his "you were the chosen one!" speech.
So, Obi-wan jets, after Anakin catches on fire, to join Yoda and Bail Organa, while carrying Padme, who is heartbroken over what Anakin has done (ie. he tried to choke her as well as being a general angsty-head and youngling killer. Oh and, you know, that whole turn to the dark side thing). Apparently, she's lost the will to live and all that.
But! The twins need to be saved, so they go to some freaky hospital place.
Luke is born first, as it should be IMO, and Obi-wan holds him. Then Leia is born and Padme names her children before she dies. Obi-wan, Yoda, and Bail discuss adoption and custody options for the twins.
Seriously, it's a lot sadder while in the theater.
Final scenes are Palpatine finding a well-done Anakin and carting him to the shiny Darth hospital where Vader will get his shiny new suit and have shiny new powers from angsting over Padme's death. (His shiny new powers are better than your shiny new powers. Heh)
Then, scene of Padme's funeral on Naboo. Camera shows her holding the trinket that Anakin made for her ever so long ago. JarJar is seen in background but doesn't speak, thankfully.
Then, scene changes to Bail carrying baby!Leia to meet his wife, presumably on Alderaan. Camera shows close up cute baby!Leia. C3PO is going to get his memory wiped, but nothing is done to R2D2. Definitely something to keep in mind when watching the original trilogy again.
Last scenes, *sniff sniff*, Obi-wan arrives at Owen and Beru's place and hands baby!Luke over to them before leaving. Both surrogate parents stand at the spot where we first see Luke standing in A New Hope, and it somehow brings everything full circle.
Final music and the audience applauding (myself included).
The movie will definitely make you want to watch the original trilogy again, with all the new background knowledge. I'm going to do that once finals are over, so I can watch it from this new perspective, so it will be like when I first saw the original trilogy (which was waaay before episode I came out, btw, just to clear things up).
That was a lot of typing so I'm done for now, until I think of something to add later, because I know I will. So.
Happy watching, fellow Star Wars geeks!
