An update?

Okay so wow, finally posting!

Let's see...since the last time I updated:

I found a new full time job which sounded awesome until I found out it was selling vacuums on commission door to door. So not my thing. I stuck it out for a week because I don't like to give up easily but realized that if a job is on the verge of giving me panic attacks than I should get out.

I auditioned for Six Flags Fright Fest again, the last time I did it was in 2002. Thought my audition was 'eh' even though they were impressed by THE REALLY AWESOME THINGS that I can do to my voice when I'm screaming. Said they'd call me in for call backs a week later if I got in. Didn't hear a thing so I figured they didn't need me.

So I planned to go to a wedding that I wouldn't have been able to make if I had been in Fright Fest! It's in San Diego and The Boy's best friend is getting married. He's in HER wedding party (like that movie!) I'm busing down there (12 HOURS!!) because it's cheaper than flying but I don't care because I LOVE going to weddings :D So my adventure starts early Friday morning!

Ahaha, so here's where it gets crazy (as though it hasn't already!) the day AFTER I book my bus tickets, I check my work schedule and GUESS WHO IS IN FRIGHT FEST AFTER ALL??? Thing is, NO ONE called to tell me I was in it, which apparently happened to some other people too. So I'm torn between YAY! they liked me after all and OH CRAP I HAVE NON REFUNDABLE TICKETS ON THE DAYS I'M SCHEDULED. Man, I may dislike working at a theme park some days but when they rush to work out my schedule with me, how can I hate them?

So now I'm going to San Diego AND getting to be in Fright Fest. Score.

Only thing left to do is find a second job because I figure that having two minimum wage jobs is like having ONE that pays $16 an hour!

I had planned a lot of re-reads this year but haven't done too many yet. And planning some GREAT new books which includes fulfilling my plan of MOAR PRATCHETT! Also, lots of author repeats but totally worth it because they WIN.

As usual:
Not too impressed by these

1) Dune by Frank Herbert
2) Bone (Volume 1): Out from Boneville by Jeff Smith
3) Bone (Volume 2): The Great Cow Race by Jeff Smith
4) Luck in the Shadows by Lynn Flewelling
5) Stalking Darkness by Lynn Flewwelling
6) Traitor's Moon by Lynn Flewelling
7) The Bone Doll's Twin by Lynn Flewelling

8) Princess: A True Story of Life Behind the Veil in Saudi Arabia by Jean P. Sasson
9) Shadows Return by Lynn Flewelling
10) Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden
11) Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire
12) The Hidden Warrior by Lynn Flewelling
13) The Oracle's Queen by Lynn Flewelling
14) Luck in the Shadows by Lynn Flewelling (again! I love it THAT MUCH)
15) The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
16) Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett

17) The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett
18) Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six M.I.T. Students Who Took Vegas for Millions by Ben Mezrich (the movie 21 is based off of this book)
19) Pyramids by Terry Pratchett
20) Paper Towns by John Green
21) Lieutenant Nun by Catalina de Erauso
22) Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson

So far so good on the count, hopefully I can keep it up!

Time for another no-post-for-FOREVER-finally-posting post. Yeah.

+ The Music Man is going great! Just finished our second weekend of shows with two more to go! I'd recommend going here, here, and here for pictures (!!!) and a review :D

+ Got my laptop back FINALLY, I missed it so much! It's a bit slower now but hopefully I get to do something to fix that. I'm also beta testing Windows 7, the new one coming out soon after Vista. Generally I like it, it's pretty and all but so far my sims games are not working the way I want them to which is ;_;

- Which led to me having to re-install them today and trying everything I can to get previously backed-up files to show up which worked the last time I had to do it and NOW IT DOESN'T. Hopefully taking a break from it will help...

+ Working at Six Flags is, in general, good. It has been hot here lately and they don't have much shade for us, which I really wished they would do something about and have mentioned before, but we'll see. It keeps me sane knowing that I don't plan to be there forever, or at least not as long as I was in retail. Also, working animal exhibits at a theme park is MUCH better than in foods or something. However...

- To: Visitors of the park, Just because an animal is not moving does NOT mean it is dead or fake. I know common sense is severely lacking in a lot of you people, but we would not have a dead animal on display and do you REALLY think that we would spend all that that effort on new expensive exhibits just to put fake animals in them? Also, WE treat our animals fine, thanks for asking, YOU do not. WE do not spit at alligators to make them move, YOU do, WE do not pull on the tails of stingrays, YOU do, and WE do not bang on the glass windows of the marine animals, YOU do. Also, not every shark you see is a great white, not every stingray is a manta ray and not every penguin comes from Antarctica. But I just explained all of it and you would know this too if you had been listening. No love, me.

+ To end this on a non-ranty ending...

So at the urging (sort of) of [ profile] brinabean, here is my long ass update finally! Er, in parts so I don't forget anything I hope.

Moving day!
I have officially moved out of my college town almost a year after graduating and WHAT a relief it is to not have to spend all my money on rent anymore, urg. I am now living with my Nana because I didn't want to move back with parents (even though my sisters are awesome and I wouldn't mind living with them again!)

I was kinda sad though, driving away with a u-haul trailer and my car's trunk full of junk because all I could think about was that my college days are officially over now. Time to be a RL functioning adult! Except for the not having to pay rent part, that part is my favorite.

WICKED IS AMAZING AND I'M PLANNING TO SEE IT AGAIN! Just, gah, the whole thing...I don't even know where to begin! The lights, the music, the costumes OMG I'M IN LOVE WITH THE COSTUMES. I was looking forward to Defying Gravity all night AND I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. Seriously, I think there were tears in my eyes.

Just finished reading the book finally and even though I usually pick books over other forms of canon the musical is MADE OF AWESOME I CANNOT DESCRIBE.

Also saw Avenue Q and its hilarity on stage is far greater than on Youtube, natch. Currently listening to soundtrack for the hundredth time!

Books! Books! Books!
Still reading Lynn Flewelling's Tamir series of books, loving those just as much as the Nightrunner series! Can't wait for September and new book! Also, the author has an LJ at [ profile] otterdance and a recent post of hers said: "Back to work on ideas for the next two Nightrunner books." which makes me glee so bad :D So yeah, [ profile] brinabean more to look forward to!

Library book sale tomorrow. I AM SO THERE.

Actually got money from the government this time instead of the other way around so that's nice :D Will be using it to update my contacts prescription because I'm sick of wearing my glasses again.

You mean there's such a thing as a fun job?
And I has one! Working at the Six Flags park (again!) in town as an explorer guide where we are, apparently, rock stars of the park...or something. Either way, I get to hang out with the animals and talk on a mic all day. It is tiring but so much fun and everyone is awesome.

I'm especially looking forward to Fright Fest where we get to be ZOMBIES.

Still a retail slave working at Kohl's but the cool job totally makes up for it :D

That moving pictures box
Watching (and actually keeping up with!) Survivor and The Amazing Race this season, it's been a while since I've watched them.

Completely Lost on Lost and forgot all about Heroes (been too busy reading fanfic and books, wasting time online, and working) must catch up soon!

This is a belated tl;dr warning!
Too late?

So Nano is going horribly considering I'm only at ~6,000 words due to distractions and such (of the good kind!) :/ I'm not surprised though, I've never been good at the whole sit down and write all day kind of thing. [ profile] brinabean and I are going to do some marathon Nano-ing when I visit for thanksgiving next week though, that might help a bit. At this point I'll be lucky to hit 10,000 words!

Also, my read 50 books for the year thing is stuck at 37...I blame the beginning of the year when I was still in school, less time to read then!

In other news, I've been driving around in a big truck for the past few days which is amusing considering how tiny I am ...but trucks are awesome. I loved cruising around in that thing AND it's got really comfy seats and power locks and windows! okay, it's my dad's car and we traded for a few days so he could do some work on mine (which means find out why it was making weird noises) but now I have my own little Echo back.... with no power steering because that had been the problem, lol. I never realized before how nice power steering was until I didn't have it and now it feels like I have to throw all my weight behind it just to turn the wheel, lol.

Thought I'd come up for air before Christmas in Retail Hell (TM) begins again for another year and I have even less time.

...yeah, so much for my plan on NOT being in retail this year, the search for the elusive Better Job is failing spectacularly and I've gotten so discouraged that I'm just going to wait for the holidays to blow over before attempting again.

Now, I think I'm going to go pig out on ice cream and watch TV!

I AM HOME *kisses the ground*

After a 12 hour drive made only slightly less annoying by switching between three drivers X.X and I now have a distinct dislike for yahoo maps, really slow trucks, and that one ass hole driver in Willits who COULDN'T WAIT TWO GODDAMN SECONDS AND HAD TO LAY ON HIS HORN *headdesk*

Other than that...

Seattle was fun and amazing!

We met lots of fun people and partied a lot!

I would LOVE to go to U of W for grad school. The CAMPUS omg and I think I am in love with their library.

Crater Lake was spectacular...the deepest and prettiest blue that I have ever seen in nature.

Oregon Caves were cold...but not as cold as when we woke up this morning at 6am to pack up the car and start back home *shiver*

Enough for now, I still smell vaguely of campfire smoke and need to unpack *topples over*

+ The show has been going great! I took some backstage pics that can be seen on facebook and myspace and there are definitely going to be more from the next two weekends. Sold out Sunday matinee although it was super hot in the theatre as usual. The first two rows were filled with red hat ladies!

+ I always end up hanging around with the younger crowd backstage, and by younger crowd I mean 12-14 year olds (not counting my sister!), because they're more fun than the adults. Plus, none of them knew how old I was until I told them, lol. I read a lot backstage though, so it's more them hanging out while I'm sitting nearby with a book. Still, everyone in the show is awesome and I've worked with a lot of them before.

+ During the library scene, we have books as props and mine happens to be a hardbound copy of Timeline by Michael Crichton so I've been reading my prop lately too (even though I've read that book three times already, lol)

+ My favorite number in the entire show? "Shipoopi!" Our steps are similar if not exactly the same at some points, only with less pink (my dress is blue, my sister's is red) and less lifts (due to the typical lack of younger guys) the guys we do have do a very good job though and it's super fun :D

+ I finally get four days off from the show so I'm planning an entrance post to Milliways (with my brand new girl character!) AND re-downloading aim. Yay for productiveness!

+ Except I'm going to do some cleaning first and I have a few phone calls to make.

+ My plans for field school are changing. I felt it would be better to only go for two weeks instead of four, due to housing/funds/rent details that still need to be worked out X.X

+ Road trip to Seattle is still a go, only with one less person :( and I'm REALLY looking forward to the space needle as well as Crater Lake on the way home!

+ I've been playing Maplestory with my sister again while in Vallejo because it works better on my parents internet than here. No one will probably get the significance of this but I finally leveled to 30 after not playing for a year!

+ Finished watching ALL of Ghost Hunters online and now can't wait for the new month, I think?

+ Have now seen In Bruges THREE TIMES and I swear it never gets old. Me and [ profile] brinabean have been quoting it a lot, although trying to quote the movie without swearing around certain people is just not the same :(

Oh yeah, and....

+ BRAND NEW EPISODES OF AVATAR STARTING FRIDAY THURSDAY!!!! Okay, so technically it starts tonight but I've already watched those online before they were supposed to air :D!
hazelbite: (A boy and his dinos)
Sooo... things have been crazy busy for me lately considering I've been splitting my time between RoPo and Vallejo...

Which reminds me, I'm curious. I paid $4.51 for gas this morning, what is every one else paying these days?

In other news...

Rehearsal for The Music Man has been SO MUCH FUN lately, it's good to be back in a musical. It's one of those things that I just can't get enough of. I missed being on stage. We've been doing choreography mostly it seems like but that's the best part! I get to do lifts and dance with a partner and be in an (almost) band again!

When I do find free time I've found myself playing The Sims 2 again. I, probably like many other people before me, have been re-creating the Black family tree - sims style. It's addicting but I've been taking a break from it lately so I could watch...

Ghost Hunters! My mom and my sister [ profile] brinabean got me into it and I've been watching the first season on usually into the early hours of the morning which makes for the creepy.

Speaking of creepy, I was very proud of myself the other day for actually managing to kill a spider ON MY OWN. This is a big deal for me considering how terrified I am of spiders but, really, the alternative was worse. If I had left it alive it could have fallen from the ceiling AND LANDED ON MY BED AND I WOULD HAVE HAD A SPIDER IN MY BED. Not cool. IT WAS ME OR IT IN A KNOCK DOWN DRAG OUT FIGHT TO THE DEATH... well, that and it was 2 in the morning and no one else was awake to kill it for me :/

Changing the subject, because I can't talk about spiders for very long without getting all weirded out... Work was crazy today.

Some highlights:
-The apprehension of two shoplifters which is more excitement that I think Petaluma knew what to do with. I was all 'pfft' this happened all the time at the Vallejo store, lol. Still, one chick made a scene and bolted for the door only the get caught by the three officers outside. Apparently she was flipping out so much that she had an audience of customers O.o
-Someone returning clothing that they swore they hadn't worn but it was obvious that they really had, in a gross way (I won't elaborate) x.x

The best thing about busy days at work is that they go by faster!

Oh yeah, and I can't wait for the road trip to Vancouver this summer!

And I'm still waiting for more info about fieldschool.

Two more things...

A HUGE HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO [ profile] foozled_up who deserves good wishes and hugs and so much more! ♥♥♥

And Happy Birthday to [ profile] aqil_philosoph as well, can't wait to party it up in the city!

Ghost Hunters should be finished loading by now...
hazelbite: (OMGSOPWNED!)
Time for an update, bullet point style!

+ I still can't believe I'm graduating tomorrow! I'm not sure how many from the anthro department are graduating with me...two that I know of for sure and the ones that were in Belize with me even! Family is getting here tomorrow morning at 8, ceremony is at 9. Will have pictures up on Facebook at some point!

+Surprisingly, got a B on my SUPER HORRIBLE Lit Review...but I guess it wasn't too bad if my professor liked it enough to give it a B. *shrug*

+ Fanime on Sunday and Monday. MY SISTER KY IS THE CUTEST SUKI EVER. 'Course, I may be biased on this matter :> Bri and I have our cosplay ready to go as well, so we'll be looking out for all FMA cosplayers to goof around with. Hopefully tons of pictures. Sadly, will miss the masquerade and FMA, Avatar gatherings but no worries! Next year we're going the entire weekend!

+ We all knew it was going to happen sooner or later, but gas in NorCal has now hit $4.00. I almost fainted at the sight of the counter this morning x.x

+ Tons of cleaning to do tonight for grad party tomorrow and I need to figure out what shoes to wear for the ceremony. This is, understandably, SERIOUS BIZNESS.

+ Unfortunately, will not be able to work at the Phoebe Hearst Museum in Berkeley in September as they are laying off all of the people working on the SURGE project in June. So much for getting a job in my field right after graduating. Still looking!

+ Rehearsals for The Music Man start on Tuesday and I have extra hours at work, so it really feels like I just traded the busy of school for the busy of RL. Not complaining.

+ Time for me to go get stuff done! La!
hazelbite: (Jimmy WINK)
Highlights from Memphis!

+Saw Jesse Jackson! We watched him film part of a documentary (I think) at the Civil Rights Museum! I'm keeping a look out for it, we only found out that it was being done by the Associated Press, nothing else.

+Two guys sat next to me in the Memphis airport. One of them happened to be the guy who won an Oscar for the screenplay Rainman in 1988. Didn't talk to him, was too shy, and by that point a whole bunch of people had crowded around to see the Oscar. (Pondering whether I should watch the movie sometime)

+Graceland is SO SHINY. Sadly, my battery died before I could get pics of the costumes (which are my fave!) Pictures on Facebook. Also, I want Elvis' basement bar, for the record.

+THE RIBS OMG. I am now addicted to ribs! Had them three night in a row.

+BEALE ST. IS SIMPLY AMAZING. I want to go back. We all went to Silky's, and Irish pub and piano lounge. Piano guy played Great Balls of Fire AND STOOD ON THE BENCH AND PLAYED WITH HIS FOOT. We chatted with him afterward, he's a fun guy :D

+Found out that the more drunk I am, the more I start to talk with a southern accent.

-If I had flown back to LAX during the day, we would have had an AMAZING view of the Grand Canyon, considering we flew right over it. *sigh* One of these days I'll get to see it.

+Presentation was easy-peasy and now I have something else to add to my resume!

Highlights from Disneyland!

+ THE BLUE BAYOU. We all finally got to eat there! Even one of us who grew up in the area had never been. Scarily expensive but SO WORTH IT. Our waiter was awesome and let us steal have a menu, lol. We tipped him extra.

+Cafe Orleans still has the best beignets EVER.

+Finally managed to do a complete mountain run. Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Matterhorn, all in one night. [ profile] socalcharger even managed to do a DOUBLE run somehow. We haven't been able to this before because one of the rides would always be closed down.

+Didn't quite make it over to Pirate Cove (which took over Tom Sawyer Island) but it LOOKED cool.

-It was cold and rainy in the morning and chilly most of the day. This made splash mountain a bit of an annoyance, lol

-Had to DASH to the Aladdin show so we wouldn't miss it and had to sit in the Mezzanine again. Never sit in the Mezzanine for that show, btw, it ruins all the magic :(

I hope I'm not forgetting anything! Good night!
hazelbite: (Suspender Love)
+I have a new toy! My shiny new 250 gig external hard drive. Keeping with the tradition of naming things (I named my iPod Persephone, my car is The Echo, my computer's name is Chimmy though I sometimes refer to it as my partner in crime), I have decided to name my new hard drive...

See, because both are small and cute and expensive.

+Also, it's official. The Christmas decorations have just gone up at work. Nrgh. I remember when they didn't go up until October. It's the middle of September and I've already got ornament glitter on my clothes.

+I don't believe I've mentioned this here yet, but my sister [ profile] ginnaveve and I are to going to cosplay at the fanime con next May. I've gone to fanime twice now and I've loved all the costumes so much that I want to dress up next time. Sure, our costumes will be fairly easy to make, but no less fun.

So if I happen to say that we'll be cross dressing as Russell and Fletcher Tringham, it shouldn't be so surprising to some people. And if it is surprising, well, better to get used to it now :D

I'll need some opinions. Neither of us have natural blond hair, and I'm too much of a wimp to cut it short and dye it, so we're opting for wigs. Here are two that I've found that I'm partial to as first choices. Also, recommendations for websites/companies would be awesome!

Russell. Will have to style it a bit.
Fletcher. Keeping in mind that he wears a funny green head...thing over it.
